photo of student and instructorHow you apply to Summer School depends on what type of student you are. Select the student type below that best fits you and follow the application instructions.

If you are not sure of your student type or if have any questions about the application process, please contact the Summer School office at 828-262-3154.

Continuing Students

You are a continuing student if you are/were enrolled in academic courses during the prior spring semester.

Returning Students

You are a returning student if you:

  • have been out for one or more semesters and planning to continue in your studies at Appalachian as a degree-seeking student (either as a graduate or an undergraduate), or
  • if you have previously attended Appalachian and plan to apply to one of the following categories:
    • Initial Teacher Licensure (Certification)
    • Renewal Teacher Licensure (Certification)
    • Non-Degree
  • are continuing in your studies at Appalachian as a degree-seeking student (either as a graduate or an undergraduate) and have applied, enrolled and missed a regular academic term (fall or spring).

Visiting Students

You are a visiting student if you have never attended Appalachian before and you plan to return to your parent institution after your summer school program. To Apply >>

New Undergraduate Students

You are a new undergraduate student if you have never attended Appalachian before and you wish to apply to an undergraduate degree program or to one of the following categories:

  • Initial Teacher Licensure (Certification)
  • Renewal Teacher Licensure (Certification)
  • Non-Degree

New undergraduate students also includes those who have graduate credit from Appalachian but have never taken an undergraduate course at Appalachian before. To Apply >>

Prospective Graduate Students

You are a prospective graduate student if you have never attended Appalachian before and you wish to apply to a graduate degree program, graduate certificate program, or as a non-degree student taking graduate level courses. To Apply >>
